13.2. Check of the vacuum amplifier of brakes with use of devices

GENERAL INFORMATION

After installation of the vacuum amplifier of brakes execute the following actions:

      – add brake liquid and remove from it air;
      – check all connections of hydraulic system of brakes on absence of leaks;
      – check and, if necessary, adjust work of a pedal of a brake;
      – check operability of brake system.

Step 1

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. At the switched-off engine several times press a brake pedal.
2. With the pressed pedal of a brake start up the engine.
3. If the pedal of a brake moves down at once after engine start-up, it testifies to normal operation of the vacuum amplifier of brakes.

Step 2

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Start up the engine.
2. In 1–2 minutes stop the engine.
3. Press a brake pedal with usual effort.
4. If the first course of a pedal – a long and second course, is shorter than the first course, it testifies to normal operation of the vacuum amplifier of brakes.
5. Otherwise check the unilateral vacuum valve or a vacuum hose on absence of damages and check reliability of their fastenings.

Step 3

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Start up the engine.
2. Press a brake pedal with usual effort.
3. Stop the engine.
4. Slowly press a pedal of a brake and hold it pressed during 30 pages.
5. If the height of a pedal does not change, the vacuum amplifier of brakes works normally.
6. Otherwise check the unilateral vacuum valve or a vacuum hose on absence of damages and check reliability of their fastenings.

If malfunction still is not eliminated, execute more detailed survey, using a manometer and the vacuum gage.

CHECK OF THE VACUUM AMPLIFIER OF BRAKES WITH USE OF DEVICES

Prevention

For carrying out tests use the available vacuum gage and the device for measurement of effort of a brake enclosed to a pedal.

Connect the vacuum gage A and the device for effort measurement In, a brake enclosed to a pedal. After removal of air carry out the tests given below.

Check of deduction of vacuum

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Start up the engine.
2. Switch off the engine when the vacuum gage will show depression of 66,7 kPas (500 mm Hg).
3. Watch vacuum gage indications during 15 pages. If the vacuum gage shows depression of 63,3-66,7 kPas (475–500 mm Hg), the vacuum amplifier means works normally.

Vacuum check under loading

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Start up the engine.
2. Press a brake pedal with effort of 196 N (20 kg).
3. At the pressed pedal of a brake switch off the engine when the vacuum gage will show depression of 66,7 kPas (500 mm Hg).
4. Watch vacuum gage indications during 15 pages. If the vacuum gage shows depression of 63,3-66,7 kPas (475–500 mm Hg), the vacuum amplifier means works normally.

Check of hydraulic pressure

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. If at the switched-off engine (depression of 0 kPas) hydraulic pressure is in demanded limits, means, the vacuum amplifier works normally.

The effort enclosed to a pedal of a brake, N
Pressure of liquid, kPa
196
12,171

2. Start up the engine. When depression will reach 66,7 kPas (500 mm Hg), press a pedal of a brake and check hydraulic pressure. If hydraulic pressure is in demanded limits, means, the vacuum amplifier works normally.

The effort enclosed to a pedal of a brake, N
Pressure of liquid, kPa
